The regiment of revived motorcycle brands has arrived: after the success of Royal Enfield and Jawa, the British BSA returned to service.
Moreover, as in the case of the Czech brand, the Mahindra concern, which acquired the rights to the brand back in 2016, is behind the whole process.
At the beginning of 2022, the single-cylinder classic Gold Star motorcycle will enter the European market - a spiritual successor to the original company's model range, but with a completely modern filling.
Retro motorcycles under the Mahindra structure are handled by Classic Legends, which began releasing new motorcycles under the Jawa name in India back in 2018.
These bikes have become many times more successful than those that are still being made in Jawa's homeland in the Czech Republic.
And BSA should compete with Royal Enfield, which is also run by Indians.
The last British BSA was released in 1972, due to the illiterate management of the company and the unsuccessful lineup against the backdrop of the Japanese who came to Europe.
The Gold Star was one of the finest motorcycle models of the late BSA, and it's not surprising that the revival was chosen to start with it.
The novelty is equipped with a single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, two overhead camshafts and 4 valves per cylinder, a working volume of 652 cm3.
45 hp (available at 6000 rpm) and 55 Nm (at 4000 rpm) were removed from it. The gearbox is five-speed, there will also be a slipper clutch and a shift assistant.
Visually, the new BSA Gold Star motorcycle literally copies its ancestor from the 60s: the design of the engine, frame, tank, everything repeats the original at a very high level.
In addition to the basic version, the Legacy Edition will go on sale: it will have chrome fenders and mirrors, polished engine covers and levers on the steering wheel, as well as a white saddle trim.
The bike is equipped with dual-channel ABS, the front brake is a two-piston Brembo floating caliper and a 320 mm floating disc, and the rear is a Brembo single-piston and 255 mm disc.
Spoke wheels, 18" front and 17" rear, wrapped in Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tires.
In curb condition, the bike weighs 213 kg, the volume of the gas tank is 12 liters.
Seat height 780 mm.
BSA Gold Star motorcycle will arrive at European dealers in March.
The price should range from 5 to 6 thousand euros.
The main task is to compete with the 650 cc Royal Enfield models (at least from the standpoint of performance characteristics, this has already happened).
The bikes are currently made in India, but Mahindra plans to build in the UK, not far from BSA's historic home of Birmingham.
By the way, the motorcycle was developed just in Britain.
